When marking components in industry, laser marking is probably the most widely used marking system in the meantime. The process-reliable and fast labeling speed are usually the decisive argument for choosing this technology.
But there are interesting alternatives to laser marking.
CNC-controlled engraving machines equipped with a multiple labeling unit carve the marking into the components at almost the same speed. With highly conductive non-ferrous metals such as Brass and copper aluminum usually even far faster.

Long-lasting and deep marking is usually required for mechanically stressed components. To achieve this, the laser requires a very long machine runtime. Cutting processes such as engraving or ritzing are still unbeatable in this discipline. You miss the parts in the deeply marked ritz or engraving. Ritz systems are emission-free and do not require any expensive protection. Housing to protect the worker from the emissions caused by the laser. Since it is not necessary to introduce the components, the new workpiece can be changed much faster than with the laser system. Even bar and data matrix codes can be realized with these techniques.

The depth of marking is also a clear advantage. Over the years it can happen that a laser-inscribed component is affected by corrosion and can no longer be scanned with the reader. In the case of incised or engraved processes, the corrosion can be mechanically removed from the component at any time and later read correctly again by the scanner. As with all conventional systems, logos, consecutive numbers, batches, date-dependent, personalized data can be imported into the machine control and processed further. A Ritz system can also be integrated into production lines or as automated solutions and linked to the PLC. The scratching is an old one, which is probably the oldest technique for marking. But it still has its charm and certainly its justification.
