DALLAS – Citing an “almost unbeaten record” in trial and appellate cases and her commitment to clients, Texas Lawyer newspaper is honoring Dallas civil trial and appellate lawyer Melanie Okon of Taber Estes Thorne & Carr in the inaugural “Winning Women” list of the state’s top women lawyers.

In including Ms. Okon among the 2011 “Winning Women” honorees, Texas Lawyer editors noted her impressive courtroom record and intense preparation when representing clients in a variety of cases. In the past 11 years, Ms. Okon has won eight of nine trials she’s handled and all three cases she has argued before appellate courts.

“Thorough preparation for trial is a hallmark of her practice,” Texas Lawyer editors state in a profile of Ms. Okon, singling out her recent successful representation of natural gas transporter Crosstex in nuisance litigation brought by property owners. The case marked the first known defense verdict in a lawsuit of its kind involving an operating gas compressor or gas processing station in Texas.

Ms. Okon focuses on trial and appellate work in state and federal courts. She has represented Fortune 500 companies, as well as medium and small businesses, regulated and unregulated electric utilities, gas companies, mining operations, homebuilders, commercial construction companies, and property owners in a wide range of matters, including contract damages, property damages and personal injury claims.

The 2011 “Winning Women” list appears in the Aug. 22, 2011, edition of Texas Lawyer. Ms. Okon and the other 19 lawyers highlighted in the “Winning Women” list will be honored at a luncheon at the Belo Mansion in Dallas on Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2011.
