SGS provides Project Management Services for Road Project in Senegal

In January 2010, SGS Industrial Services was awarded a contract to provide Project Management Services, Health, Safety and Environment Management and Quality Control inspections for one of the biggest road building projects in the recent history of Senegal by AGEROUTE, the Road Administration Agency in Senegal.

Beginning in January 2010 and planned for completion in April 2012, the Senegal infrastructure project, comprising 120 km of bitumen roads, 65 km of tracks and 16 km of urban works, aims at the rehabilitation of the Saint Louis – Rosso/Richard toll road, which provides access to two airports and other areas of urban expansion as well as rural development.

In order to ensure the completion of the project within the planned schedule and budget, AGEROUTE (, the agency responsible for the implementation of construction, maintenance and repair of the road networks in Senegal under the authority of the government body DDI (Direction de la Dette et de l’Investissement), sought a reliable third-party inspection and testing company.

In January 2010, SGS Industrial Services ( was awarded a contract to conduct specialist third-party services for the guidance and supervision of the road works during the construction phase of the project. SGS will also assist AGEROUTE if needed during the period of guarantee (12 months after the end of construction phase) until the final approval of the road works.
To coordinate this massive project, a team of sixteen engineers, technicians and other support staff will be permanently present on site for the supervision of the road works and laboratory tests throughout the duration of the project.

SGS is playing a major coordinating role in a road building project in Senegal by providing Project Management Services, Health, Safety and Environment Management as well as Quality Control inspections.

With Project Management Services (, SGS’s team of highly skilled experts guarantees that the project stays on schedule within the projected budget and assures top quality.

SGS will not only ensure compliance with all regulatory and client requirements, witness the relevant tests on-site and in the laboratory, and supervise the works during construction and commissioning, but will also carry out approval of relevant documentation, monitoring schedules and the overall performance.
For Health, Safety and Environment Management (, SGS coordinates all health and safety aspects of the construction project, to protect workers onsite, drawing up health and safety plans, and verifying any existing or proposed plans.

Quality Control inspections of the building materials are also regularly conducted, to ensure the roads are constructed in accordance with all national and international quality requirements. Through Quality Assurance and Quality Control ( SGS verifies materials, parts and final products with checks, audits, inspections and witnessing.
