Nigeria Logistics Market is Expected to Cross USD 1.5 Billion

• Nigeria is expected to build the Lekki Lagos Airport on a 3,000-hectare plot and largest Deep Sea Port project at a budget of USD 1.5 billion which is expected to complete by 2020 and will decongest the traffic near Lagos promoting efficient transportation.
• Nigeria SEZ Investment Company is currently raising capital of USD 250 million from various lenders to develop Free trade zones in Katsina, Abia and Lagos State. This will fill the supply-demand gap in the economy.
• E-commerce sector is expected to increase three times in the future that will boost the Courier and Parcel market in Nigeria.

International Trade Agreements to Boost Foreign Trade: The bilateral and free trade agreements with various countries, along with involvement in initiatives such as ECOWAS and AGOA are expected to improve trade substantially. With the African Continental Free Trade Agreement, Nigeria now has free access to the entire African market thereby improving the trade between the neighboring countries and impacting the logistics sector in the future.

The expected boost in the Manufacturing and Export Sector: The government has prohibited the importation of 41 products due to recession in 2016-17 and will focus on building manufacturing and industrial units. The project MINE is an initiative by the newly elected president to develop special economic zones and promote the goods that are made in Nigeria. The first round of funding will concentrate on developing Funtua Cotton Cluster, Enyimba Economic City and Lekki-Epe Model Industrial Park in Katsina, Abia and Lagos State respectively. This will increase the domestic demand as well as exports in the market giving a boost to the warehousing sector. Some of the companies that have been entered recently are Dangote, Vicampro Farm, BlackPace and Kiremko.

Advancement in Technology: Technologies such as GPS tracking and control towers are still not very popular in Nigeria. Other upcoming technologies include real-time fuel management systems, warehousing management systems, cargo management systems, and communication and information systems such as EDI which can be used to reduce paperwork and minimize the time taken for compliance procedures.
