Energy and environmental protection
Microalgae biodiesel is expected to replace traditional fossil fuels. The organic matter such as lipids in the microalgae can be converted into a combustible liquid fuel by techniques such as transesterification and thermochemical decomposition. In addition to the lipids, other algal cell components (proteins, polysaccharides, etc.) can be pyrolyzed into bio-oil as well. Moreover, the microalgae consumes a large amount of CO2 while providing energy, which can effectively alleviate the greenhouse effect, and the microalgae can absorb nutrients in the sewage and purify the water.

Food industry
Microalgae are rich in protein and oil, can be used as food for humans and various livestock, and can also be used to make various food additives. Both algal polysaccharides and phycocyanin in microalgae can enhance the proliferation of bone marrow cells, promote the growth of immune organs such as thymus and spleen, and promote the biosynthesis of serum proteins.

Feed industry
The various biochemical components contained in the algae can provide the necessary nutrients for animals such as fish and shrimp, and can effectively promote the growth of animals. Astaxanthin is a component contained in general microalgae, and it has a certain influence on the accumulation of carotenoids in fish. In addition, chlorella is often used as a bait for rotifers and shellfish. Microalgae is widely considered to be an ideal feed for shrimp breeding because of its rich nutrition, strong palatability and good stability.

Cosmetics industry
The polysaccharides and antioxidants contained in the microalgae have the functions of moisturizing, anti-ultraviolet radiation, anti-oxidation and the like. Microalgae reduces formation of pigmentation and wrinkles by inhibiting the oxidation of free radicals in the body and reducing the peroxidation of lipids. Studies have shown that the nutrient solution of spirulina can provide a variety of nutrients and active ingredients such as amino acids, algae polysaccharides, SOD, etc., which have the effects of increasing skin elasticity, moisturizing, and reducing wrinkles. Spirulina cosmetics have good permeability and have no irritation or sensitization to the skin.
