Samsung Galaxy A10 Smartphone: Power in Plastic

The Samsung Galaxy A series is a line of mid-range smartphones manufactured by Samsung Electronics. The entry into the Galaxy A series begins with the Galaxy A10, which currently retails for R2,699 at Cellucity. The phone is entirely made out of plastic and has a glossy finish. It’s a unibody design so the back also extends to the sides of the phone, replacing the frame. Not only is it bright and bold in looks, but also comfortable and handy.

Samsung has made some compromises for the cheapest model in its Galaxy A series. However, the Galaxy A10 is no slouch and performs well for a smartphone that's under 3k. The Galaxy A10 has a surprisingly current design for a budget smartphone, with its narrow bezels and notched display. Samsung includes 32 GB of storage too, along with 2 GB of RAM, octa-core Exynos 7884 processor and LTE support. A 13MP single camera sits on the back and a 5MP camera is placed on the front. The phone’s power source is a 3400mAh battery. The SIM card tray has three slots; two for the SIM cards (SAMSUNG Galaxy A10 (Dual SIM)) and thankfully a dedicated microSD slot to enhance the storage of the phone up to 1TB.

However, Samsung has omitted some features found on other comparably priced devices to keep costs down though, which is worth bearing in mind if you are considering the Galaxy A10 as your next smartphone. That said, you cannot get 32 GB of storage anywhere else at this price level.

Samsung also has an upgraded version of the A10 - the Galaxy A10s, which has a fingerprint scanner, larger battery and dual rear-facing cameras supports face unlock.

As far as the cameras are concerned, the Samsung Galaxy A10s on the rear packs a 13-megapixel primary camera with an f/1.8 aperture and a second 2-megapixel camera with an f/2.4 aperture. The rear camera setup has autofocus. It sports a 8-megapixel camera on the front for selfies, with an f/2.0 aperture.

The Samsung Galaxy A10s runs One UI based on Android 9 Pie and packs 32GB of inbuilt storage that can be expanded via microSD card (up to 512GB) with a dedicated slot. The Samsung Galaxy A10s is a dual-SIM (GSM and GSM) smartphone that accepts Nano-SIM and Nano-SIM cards.

Samsung Galaxy A20: A Long-Lasting Phone for Less Than R3500

Galaxy A20, adopt some of the features found in Samsung's pricier devices. But these features now appear in a more affordable package.

As the Galaxy A20 shows, you still make some trade-offs in performance, design and screen quality. But Samsung's latest budget phone also takes good photos and packs a long-lasting battery, making this device an intriguing option for budget-minded shoppers. The Samsung Galaxy A20 is a mid-range smartphone with decent camera and performance. With its recent A-series releases, Samsung set out to design cheap phones that look just like the company's more expensive flagships.

The glossy plastic finish stands out all on its own, and user can choose from black, deep blue or red. The Samsung Galaxy A20 is 7.8 mm slim and weighs 169 grams. As for display, it has a 6.4 inches of HD+ AMOLED screen. Infinity Display is a near bezel-less, full-frontal glass, edge-to-edge screen.

The simple and easy-to-use Galaxy A20 dual camera gives user bright and clear photos with just a point and tap. The 13 MP and 5 MP 123° ultra wide-angle rear camera duo excels outdoors with vibrant contrasts that really makes colours pop and the neutral colours don't sway to warm or cool. If you're a fan of the portrait mode featured in many flagship phones, you'll enjoy the A20's Live Focus option, which Samsung has brought over from its pricier handsets. The camera automatically focuses on the subject giving more control over how blurry the background appears.

With both wide and ultra wide modes to fit more in the shot, you wont miss a moment. The Galaxy A20's 8 MP front selfie camera makes selfies look their best, and with Selfie Focus, user get a gentle background blur that makes the person the star of the picture.

As far as performance goes, the Samsung Galaxy A20 is powered by an octa core (1.6 GHz, Dual core + 1.35 GHz, Hexa Core) processor paired with 3 GB of RAM.

For graphical performance that can make games run smoothly, this phone has got a Mali-G71 GPU. On board storage is at 32 GB with the option to expand the memory by up to 512 GB.

The Samsung Galaxy A20's 4,000mAh battery really holds up and A20 lasted an impressive 13 hours. For comparison, the average smartphone dies just after 10 hours. The Galaxy A20 supports 15-watt charging, which means you can top off the battery in a respectable amount of time.

Bottom line
Any budget smartphone comes with trade-offs. The Galaxy A series has always been comprised of premium midrangers. But Samsung's strategy for it has come through several transformations. From all-metal phones and water-resistant designs, through a couple of odd experiments, and lately - pioneering trendy features like notched AMOLEDs and ultra-wide-angle snappers. Samsung has packed in plenty of power for the price and quality. If you're looking to save on your next smartphone purchase and looking for a phone to deliver the basic daily tasks such as messaging, social media, casual entertainment and mid-range gaming purposes. The the Samsung Galaxy A Series has a price tag that fits most pockets.
