Skiermont Puckett LLP Launches Innovative Law Practice

DALLAS – Veteran courtroom lawyers Paul Skiermont and Donald Puckett are pleased to announce the formation of their new Dallas-based national law practice. Skiermont Puckett LLP is dedicated to representing plaintiffs and defendants in patent infringement, antitrust and other complex commercial litigation.

The firm will employ an innovative law firm model by relying exclusively on alternative fee arrangements in which clients are not billed at an hourly rate. Instead, Skiermont Puckett’s fee structures will include flat monthly fees, fixed project-based fees, success bonuses, contingent fees, and blended flat fees with bonus or contingent components.

“Our fees are linked to successful results and based on the value of our work to our clients, rather than the traditional hourly model that rewards inefficiency,” says Mr. Skiermont. “We can craft a variety of different arrangements that best fit our clients’ needs and provide greater certainty to their budgets.”

In forming the new firm, Mr. Skiermont is relocating from Chicago, where he was a partner at Bartlit Beck Herman Palenchar & Scott LLP, a nationally renowned litigation boutique known for its success in high-stakes cases. Mr. Skiermont has represented a number of international companies in litigation involving pharmaceuticals, aerospace, telecommunications and other technologies. Just prior to forming Skiermont Puckett, he was a key member of the legal team that prevailed in an alleged multibillion-dollar patent infringement lawsuit over the engines that power the A380 superjumbo aircraft, and he also played a key role on the team that succeeded in the landmark antitrust class action involving the antibiotic Cipro®. He earned his law degree from The University of Chicago Law School and his undergraduate degree from the University of Kentucky, where he and Mr. Puckett first became friends as members of the university debate team.

Mr. Puckett has practiced law in Dallas for a decade, representing businesses and select individuals in patent infringement litigation, patent licensing, and other complex business litigation. Prior to establishing Skiermont Puckett, he was a Principal at The Ware Firm in Dallas, and formerly was an associate in the Dallas office of McKool Smith PC and the Dallas office of Carrington, Coleman, Sloman & Blumenthal LLP. He earned his law degree from The University of Texas School of Law and his undergraduate degree from the University of Kentucky.
