Jorro Can Now Install A Super-Fast Electric Vehicle Charger

10-10-2019 04:05 PM CET | Business, Economy, Finances, Banking & Insurance

Press release from: Jorro Ltd

There is a distinct movement towards an increase in the number of electric vehicles on the roads today. The City of Dundee now has between 2% and 3% of all vehicles on its’ roads powered by electricity, and around one quarter of all its’ taxis are electric. While 3% of vehicles doesn’t sound a lot, it is more than any other city in the UK and is set to increase further. Now that we have the government awarding grants for people to go electric and buy electric vehicles, and also awarding grants for the installation of a home electric car charger, more people will be prepared to invest in them.

However, one of the problems with an electric vehicle is the length of time that it takes to charge. You can fill a tank with petrol in a couple of minutes, but some chargers can take well over a day to charge a vehicle from discharged to fully charged.

There are a number of methods of charging an electric vehicle. Some councils are now starting to add charging points to lamp posts, but this means that there are cables on the footpath which can cause a hazard. In Dundee the council is taking steps to provide charging points off road in places like multi-storey car parks so that cars can be charged while people go shopping. There will come a time in the not too distant future when petrol stations may become EV charging stations.

However, Jorro, which is the leading installer of charging points in Scotland, is now able to install a very fast electric charger, the Wallpod EV commercial charger which can provide Mode 3 charging to every electric vehicle on the road today. This uses DC and bypasses the vehicle’s on-board charger, resulting in a charge from fully discharged to fully charged in a little as 30 minutes.

Jorro has installed some 2,300 charging points across Scotland and can install the Wallpod for £999, or if the customer is eligible for the OLEV grant, just £499.
