Philadelphia Dental Implants Expert Says Women to be More Proactive with Oral Health Maintenance

WILLIAMSPORT, COLLEGEVILLE AND PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA - Results of a study involving women and their approach to oral health were released recently.

They show what Philadelphia periodontist Dr. David DiGiallorenzo witnesses daily at his Williamsport and Collegeville office locations- women are more proactive when it comes to maintaining oral health.

DiGiallorenzo, a Philadelphia dental implants expert (http://www.perioimplants.us/), said he found the information interesting, but not shocking.

"Women are more diligent in terms of addressing health concerns, and they comprise about eighty percent of the dental procedures we provide," he said.

Research published in the Journal of Periodontology’s April issue confirms that females are nearly twice as likely to have been to the dentist for a regular checkup within the past year.

The Okayama University School of Medicine, Dentistry and Pharmaceutical Sciences conducted the study, and as a result, found women to be more likely to schedule follow-up appointments for treatment that was recommended during their dental exam.

The more than 800 women- ages 18 and 19- in the study also had better indicators of periodontal health, such as fewer cases of dental plaque, calculus and bleeding on probing. All of these are signs of potential periodontal disease.

Other findings from the study as outlined on Dr Bicuspid website show:
• Women are 26 percent more likely than males to floss their teeth every day.
• 44 percent of women understand that periodontists can help promote overall good health, compared with 33 percent of males.
