TOCA ME cooperates with Dubai’s International Design Forum (IDF)

Munich, April 2007. TOCA ME is cooperating with the first annual International Design Forum (IDF) due to take place in Dubai on 27-29 May, 2007 under the official patronage of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Executive Council of Dubai. In the role of an official knowledge partner TOCA ME develops the “new frontiers of design” chapter as part of the IDF. The International Design Forum is organized by Moutamarat, a high profile pan-Arab business initiative seeking to create business knowledge for the Arab world.

Ronald Iberl, managing director of TOCA ME notes: “We decided to support the IDF, because we feel confident that this event will be one of the most important gatherings in the fields of design worldwide.” Built around three main program tracks (industrial design, urban design and design connects), this exclusive, invitation-only event will gather 500 senior decision-makers from all around the world to collectively tackle the greatest design challenges of the future.

Prominent designers, artists, business leaders, architects, media leaders, government representatives, and academics will be encouraged to use their experience and networking skills to determine together the role of creativity and design in shaping our future. the IDF will also host a series of exhibitions, special visits and installations. The IDF looks into the world of design, with a particular focus on the Arab region and represents a fresh new initiative from the Arab world and an effort to link disciplines through the lens of creativity.

The IDF is led and supported by a Design Advisory Board including among other prestigious personalities, Villa Moda's Sheikh Majed Al-Sabah; Zaha Hadid, the UK architect and Professor at the University of Applied Arts, Vienna; Nadim Karam, architect, artist and Principal, Atelier Hapsitus, Lebanon; Bernard Khoury, architect, DW5, Lebanon; Rem Koolhaas, architect and Principal of the Office for Metropolitan Architecture, OMA, The Netherlands; Khalid Al-Najjar, architect and Principal [dxb] LAB, UAE; Stefano Boeri, architect, urban planner and editor of Domus, Italy; Peter Zec, president of red dot, Germany; and Karim Rashid, the leading product designer and interior designer.

As the first global design celebration of its kind to emerge from the Arab world, the IDF will integrate into the international design calendar and become a yearly reference for learning more about the life changing effect of design. The IDF will strike a balance between being a public event and a closed, exclusive, knowledge-based forum. Installations and other designers’ lounges will celebrate the power of design, while an innovative learning experience will be provided through high-level debates and new knowledge products. The IDF will also feature a major international design exhibition at the arena of the Madinat Conference Hall.
