SMART was founded by Guy Sela. Sela was born in 1973, in Rehovot, one of the first agricultural towns in Israel. He graduated, with a BSc. degree from the Hebrew University as an agronomical engineer with specialization and expertise in irrigation, fertilization and water treatment. His work in large scales, nationally and internationally, enabled him to lead comprehensive research programs on crop fertilization, underwater desalination and cut edge agriculture.

Guy Sela is an expert in the fields of water treatment specialization and agronomy for agricultural industry. He has led many projects of RO, water disinfection and water purification, providing high quality water for irrigation. His experience includes both surface water treatment as well as groundwater treatment. Mr. Sela has worked the world's leading agricultural companies. Sela observed many growers who mainly rely on trial and error, estimation and past experience, either of their own or of consultants in the industry.

The broad misuse of fertilizers is a global phenomenon which results in decreased yields, fertilizer waste, and damage to soil and groundwater contamination. This led him to establish his innovative venture SMART Fertilizer in 2008. Its main aim is to eliminate trial and error from crucial fertilization procedures and developed an innovative software system, which provides solutions for fertilization management and optimization.

Established in 2008, Smart, a privately owned company, provides high quality, expert consultancy services worldwide and has continuously been at the forefront of precision fertilization management and water treatment technology.
