TYRE SYSTEM HELPS BUSINESSES GO GREEN
A unique segmented tyre system is proving ever more popular with businesses that want to minimise the number of tyres heading for our landfill sites.Following the UK implementation of the EU landfill directive in 1995 and the recent disaster with supposedly eco-friendly ‘tyre reefs’, dealers and users of heavy machinery and plant vehicles are now having to look far and wide for environmentally friendly alternatives to pneumatic tyres. Increasingly, ‘green’ issues have become the latest battleground for rival businesses looking to make their company stand out from the crowd.
AirBoss is helping by providing construction businesses with an ecologically-sound tyre option for their vehicles that minimises waste rubber, significantly reduces maintenance costs and has a reduced carbon footprint into the bargain. They produce a tyre with individual segments based around a metal rim; the only parts that need replacing are the segments, so there’s no worry about disposing of whole tyres.
A vast quantity of the near 100 million tyres scrapped in the last two years has come from heavy machinery, or plant vehicles, prone to punctures and damage. These tyres are regularly scrapped before they are fully worn out because the puncture frequency reaches an unacceptable level. In addition, the machines are out of action until tyres are replaced. AirBoss tyre segments can be changed in minutes by the machine operators, virtually eliminating downtime.
Airboss CEO, Don Gillanders, said: “Although initiatives such as cryogenic reprocessing have been developed, environmental issues remain an important factor to people that deal with tyres. Airboss have been keen to approach the issue head-on and our system provides a way for big manufacturers to do their bit.”
Early adopters of the Airboss ‘green tyre system’ include JCB, Caterpillar, and Bobcat. For manufacturing, the ‘green’ option may soon be the only one.
AirBoss is a Rotherham based company whose puncture-proof system has established a reputation as the most cost effective answer to punctures and tyre-related downtime.
With an ever-growing number of mobile equipment users, the system is used across a wide range of applications that includes construction, demolition, waste management, foundries and agriculture. In fact, AirBoss tyres can operate in almost any working environment where hostile conditions cause punctures, tyre damage or excessive wear. It is for this reason that vehicles with AirBoss tyres were the only vehicles able to help in the construction of the channel tunnel. They are available in several colour options to suit different industries.
