WEST LONDON RESIDENT WINS NATIONAL RISING STAR AWARD

16/07/19 London, UK – Nadine Barrett, currently Slough Borough Council’s CSE and Gangs Coordinator, has won a national Public Sector Rising Star Award 2019! The Rising Star Awards are the first to focus on the achievements of the UK’s female talent pipeline below management level. The awards celebrate the contributions of 100 individual women who represent the leaders and role models of tomorrow.

More than 1,250 women entered the awards, with 35,000 public votes of support for the 200 shortlisted nominees. Nadine was one of 10 people across the country shortlisted for the prestigious public sector Rising Star Award and is delighted to have been recognised.

Nadine was nominated by a female leader in another London local authority, in recognition of her commitment to creating positive change for the communities she serves. This is a lifelong passion that Nadine has pursued, all whilst balancing caring responsibilities, running her own business and managing the impact of her own chronic pain and fatigue.

Awards ceremony
The winners were announced and celebrated on 3 July during a prestigious awards ceremony at the Landmark Hotel, Marylebone. Guests were welcomed by Jane Hill from BBC News, and entertained throughout the night by 1920s girl band, Just the Tonic, 2019 The Voice contestant and soul sensation Roger Samuels, and the multi Brit and MOBO award winner, Lemar.

Lorraine Candy, luxury content director of The Sunday Times, which supports the awards, said, “The Times and The Sunday Times are thrilled to once again support this year’s Rising Star Awards. “With gender politics and female empowerment dominating our headlines, supporting women in the workplace remains important … We believe that by raising up those at lower levels, we are creating tomorrow’s leaders and these awards help shine a spotlight on the tremendous work being achieved in the female pipeline.”

Nadine’s contributions
Nadine has more than 10 years’ experience working with families, young people and vulnerable adults in various local authorities, including her place of birth of Hillingdon, West London.

She has led the way on awareness raising, prevention and building resilient communities, working both to empower individuals and supporting other professionals to develop to their potential. In 2018 alone, Nadine trained more than 300 front line workers, apprentices and managers from statutory and third sector organisations. This was in addition to her main role to meet the needs of Slough’s partner agencies and ensure they are equipped to recognise, refer and respond to signs of exploitation.

“People ask me how I keep going, keep smiling and get so much done. I believe the key is working on myself daily to improve my mind-set and skills and keeping my focus on my passion to impact lives. Even when my body doesn’t want to cooperate and I feel exhausted, I know I’ve been here before and there is still something useful I can do, so I carry on.” Nadine Barrett

Outside of her career Nadine spends her time bringing knowledge and empowerment to others as part of Just Me On Life Coaching and her Emerging Warrior online community. She volunteer’s her time providing regular training and support to over 100 members worldwide as well as coaching parents and children at various events in London. She is determined to show people how they can push past barriers to create the kind of life and success they want, no matter their current circumstance.
