US PHARMA COMPANY MOVES AWAY FROM RETROSPECTIVE DATA LOGGERS

The development of drug treatments to tackle cancerous conditions is being advanced with the help of British know-how in wireless temperature monitoring, that helps to protect the integrity of vital pharma products.

IsoTherapeutics swapped standalone data loggers in favour of Hanwell’s wireless and control technology as they needed more accurate, real-time monitoring of ultra-cold freezers and refrigerators which contained vials of drug product, buffers and reagents, used for production or testing at the facility in Angleton.

IsoTherapeutics’ Quality Associate, Stephen Davis, explained: “Most of our drug products contain proteins that are subject to temperature degradation. Ultracold storage greatly retards deterioration, thus preserving samples for later use or testing.

“We actually started with temperature recorders that had to be manually read or downloaded for analysis, but that was an after-the-fact discovery of temperature excursions. Hanwell allows real-time monitoring and reporting of conditions gone astray. This allows quick response and correction preventing loss of product and shows that we have better control of our storage facilities.”

Summing up, Mr Davis said: “The monitors are cost effective and the expansion capacity is large before more base units need to be added. We have been very pleased and have no reason to switch (to other systems). If we were starting from ground zero, we would choose Hanwell again based on capabilities, cost and performance to date.”

To provide real peace of mind, Hanwell recommended its IceSpy PT100 transmitter with remote probes for monitoring the ultracold freezers, the IceSpy thermistor transmitters with internal sensors for the refrigerators, and the IceSpy transmitter with on-board RH/T sensor to measure the temperature and humidity of the stability chambers. For keeping a check on the power to the building, three IceSpy voltage transmitters with split core current transmitters were added to the order, and were fitted later by Hanwell’s local distributor, Coolers Inc based in Houston.
