Trucks Direct Identify 'Black Hole' in Forklift Truck Safety Examinations
Birmingham, United Kingdom (May 26 2011) - Trucks Direct UK Ltd, one of the UK's largest suppliers of quality used forklift trucks for sale and hire, have identified an area for improvement on the current Thorough Examination inspection for forklift trucks.Companies and individuals in private and public sectors hiring, buying or leasing forklift trucks have a legal obligation to ensure that their vehicle holds a valid Report of Thorough Examination. Failing to comply with this legislation can result in prosecution, insurance invalidation, and serious accidents due to the faulty equipment.
Trucks Direct believes that the current Thorough Examination inspection for forklift trucks does not place sufficient emphasis on checking the chain that controls a truck's lifting and lowering functions, resulting in a 'black hole' in forklift testing procedures that risks compromising forklift operation safety.
"At present, there is no requirement for the person carrying out the Thorough Examination to see a truck's Chain Test Certificate - unless they believe that the incorrect chain has been fitted," commented a spokesperson for Trucks Direct UK Ltd. "However, with one forklift chain looking very similar to another, it is difficult to detect an inadequate chain from a visual inspection alone. This is why, in our view, a truck's Chain Test Certificate should be checked and verified as part of the Thorough Examination inspection process.
"We will continue with our company's ongoing dedication to ensuring that all parts of our forklift trucks are in perfect working order, regardless of the absence of chain-checking in the current Thorough Examination procedure, to offer complete safety and reassurance to our customers."
