June 25, 2019, Detroit, Michigan - Black women have and continue to face a plethora of negative stereotypes and misconceptions, which aided in the marginalization of Black women across the country. From the 'angry black woman' syndrome to being accused of displaying an unwelcoming aura, the Black woman has been labeled unfairly.

In truth, Black women at-large have had a much different experience than women from other cultures. The expectations of Black women have forced them to carry a torch of strength and resilience that is often passed down generation after generation, subsequently stealing the innocence and childhood of young black girls who are forced to mature earlier than other children their age.

The Black Beautiful Brilliant movement serves as a catalyst to eradicate the falsehoods about Black women to create a better unity with society and each other. The success of the movement will ultimately change the narrative and create a different trajectory.

"We have to take the onus in changing the way we are perceived by others and one another," says Tonya Shirelle, Executive Producer. The Black Beautiful Brilliant Book shares insightful information on some of the struggles Black women have faced as well as personal stories of the authors. The Black Beautiful Brilliant television show covers a myriad of topics from colorism and classism to breaking glass ceilings.

In celebration of Juneteenth, a Black Beautiful Brilliant episode was released on Youtube that discussed the role of grandmothers, Big Mamas and Madeas and the changing dynamics of the Black family. The hosts of Black Beautiful Brilliant Show and authors of the book, Kim Bettie, Terri Lee Chandler, Sylvia Crawford, Porsha Monique, and Tonya Shirelle share intriguing stories and information.

In addition to the book and television show, an HBCU tour is on the horizon where the group hopes to change the way history is received and interpreted by younger generations. "When we talk about slavery and even the civil rights movement to younger people it seems to go over their head, but when we talk about our experiences and expound on that of our parents and grandparents leading back to those moments, they can better relate," says Shirelle.

Executive producer Randy Holloway is excited about the project and is quick to point out that the project is a positive one and not a "woe it's me," storyline. Holloway, the founder of Randy Holloway Entertainment, is an award-winning writer, producer, director, Sundance Institute Fellow, NYFA Artspire artist, and currently serves as a writer and producer for the" Ask Dr. Nandi" show and for Fox Television.

He has worked with major broadcast and cable television networks and brands including MTV, Ford, Jack Daniels, Kuhmo Tire, Oxygen, BET, NBC, Columbia Pictures, and Fox, among others.

The Black Beautiful Brilliant movement is gaining momentum, and like the #metoo, #timesup, #blacklivesmatter movements is sure to start the awareness for change.
