CASwell R-5211 Cloud Storage Server Available Now as a Verified Intel® Select Solution for NFVi

Taipei, Taiwan - June 18th, 2019 - CASwell, a leading manufacturer of innovative and high-performance SD-WAN/uCPE and Cloud/NFV systems, is proud to announce that the recently released R-5211 rackmount appliance is available now as a verified Intel® Select Solution for NFVi.

The CASwell R-5211 rackmount appliance was developed with plenty of storage space. It has 24 hard drive bays in order to meet demanding Cloud Services as part of large networks with multiple virtual machines running different applications. As a verified Intel Select Solution for NFVi, the CASwell R-5211 brings the dominant performance of Intel® Xeon® Platinum processors to the Cloud as part of a workload-optimized hardware and software stack that offers verified performance. The standard 2U device platform easily fits into any rackmount cabinet and includes PCI Express 3.0 (PCIe 3.0) for easy upgrade to five expansion cards.

The CASwell R-5211 as a verified Intel Select Solution for NFVi is based on two Intel® Xeon® Platinum 8176 processors with 28 CPU cores each, 384 GByte DDR4-2666 main memory, two NVMe SSDs with 4 TByte each, two 25-Gbit Intel® Ethernet Network Adapter XXV710, plus one Intel® QuickAssist Adapter 8960 (Intel® QAT) for providing accelerated encrypted data traffic in a secure network, reducing overall data size and storage demands by speeding real-time compression while at the same time offloading the CPU from some of the processing workloads.

There is a MicroSemi Adaptec 1100-24i 12G host bus adapter included to provide the bandwidth needed for 24 bays of 2.5-inch hard drives or SSDs. This allows the R-5211 to reach a storage capacity of up to 192 TByte when fully equipped with solid state drives at their highest currently available capacity. An optional Trusted Platform Module (TPM) for encryption, authentication and digital rights management is also available for the R-5211.

The CASwell R-5211 includes two 10-Gbit SFP+ and two 1-Gbit RJ45 Ethernet ports for high speed networking connectivity but can be expanded by PCI Express 3.0 network cards to add more or even faster Ethernet connections. Two redundant power supplies make sure that the system keeps running even if one PSU should unexpectedly fail.
