Creta Maris Beach Resort celebrates Biodiversity by holding special activities

Guided tour in the resort’s gardens, Information on the resort’s participation in Stray Animals’ Program, Traditional Sheep Shearing and Cheese-MakingOn the occasion of the International Day for Biological Diversity, Creta Maris Beach Resort’ Green Team organized a series of events during the last week of May, aiming to inform the resort’s guests about Creta Maris’ multi-level initiatives on environmental protection and the "We do local" standard.

The Biodiversity Week began with a guided tour in the resort’s gardens, where the guests had the opportunity to see and smell the rare herbs of Cretan fauna and to be informed of the significance these herbs had in all areas of life of the Cretans from the Minoan times until today. Along with the tour, the participants were informed about Creta Maris’ initiative that aims in addressing the issue of stray animals, through the creation of stray cat care stations, and the participance of the resort in a sterilization program that was implemented in cooperation with the Dutch Non-Profit Organization “Animals in Distress Foundation”.By the end of the Biodiversity week the resort organized its traditional sheep shearing, one of the most impressive events that takes place every year in Crete with the aim to protect the animals from the heat of the summer. This special custom, which is a big celebration inextricably bound with the farming lifestyle of Crete was organized, for the eighth consecutive year, with cheese-making, traditional “antikristo” BBQ and music, thus offering to Creta Maris’ guests the chance to experience the local lifestyle ad making them communicants of Cretan customs and tradition.
On the occasion of these activities, the General Manager of Creta Maris Beach Resort, Mr. Nikos Vlassiadis stated the following: “As the respect of the environment is at the core of Creta Maris Beach Resort’s philosophy, we apply the highest environmental standards to all aspects of our operation.
