E-bike racing popularity still increasing
MUENCH participates in world’s largest fair for renewable energies.- SPORT1 reports about the future of racing (“e-racing“) and MUENCH Racing Team in particular.
From June 8th till June 10th MUENCH Racing and their sponsors SCHOTT Solar, Gildemeister and The meeco Group present their e-bikes at the world’s largest trade fair for renewable energies “Intersolar” in Munich. The 2010 e-bike world champion represents the perfect bond between environment friendly energy supply and a for high technical locomotion rather good carbon footprint. “E-racing” is a perfect example fort the fact that e-mobility does not necessarily come along with a loss of driving pleasure and lack of powerful engines.
The main difference between usual racing bikes and e-bikes is that e-bikes are run by electric motor instead of CI engine. Furthermore, several accumulators replace the usual tank. Hence, the technical challenge is to find a way to both, develop innovative ways store energy and to improve and implement an efficient power train. MUENCH is Germany’s role model considering e-bike development. Continuing last season’s winning streak they were able to celebrate a double after the only German race in Schleiz. Only 16 seconds slower than the race track record the fastest racing time with 1:41,8 minutes was accomplished by MUENCH driver Matthias Himmelmann.
On this particular weekend the German TV channel SPORT 1 shot a report about e-racing which will be broadcasted on Wednesday June 8th, 2011 at 10.45pm. Amongst others famous former racing star Katja Poensgen attended the race and lapped with the TTE-1.2 to put together a new episode for her racing broadcast as well. Katja Poensgen is the world’s sole female racing driver who was ever able to score in the 250cm³ Street World Championship. “I am surprised how quickly I adapted to this e-bike and felt comfortable,” posted Katja Poensgen on her homepage after the shoot.
The team’s web page statistics show the e-bike racing community rapidly grows. “We have observed a 50% - increase in the number of visitors to our new homepage. This shows that e-mobility finally found its way to the people,” says Thomas Petsch, Manager of the MEUNCH MOTORRAD TECHNIK GmbH. ”On the other hand the requests from fans and journalists increase as well.” The most frequently asked question however is when the e-bike will be ready for the street. According to Thomas Petsch the team receives bids from all over the world even though the bike does not even exist yet.
