New compliance mandates such as PCI (Payment Card Industry), European Union Data Retention Directive, HIPAA (Healthcare Insurance Portability and Accountability Act), along with IT controls such as NIST (National Institute of Standards and Technology) and COBIT® (Control Objectives for Information and Related Technology) require companies to retain log data securely for periods often exceeding one year.
