Pedestrianised Gallery at Urban Art 2011

Urban Art 2011, is London’s largest annual open air Contemporary Arts Fair and takes place along the railings of Josephine Avenue, London SW2, during the weekend of Saturday 16th July and Sunday 17th July from 10.00am to 6.00pm. Free entry.
Around 2,000 pieces of work will be on display from 150 artists ranging from the novice to the established and with prices to match this is an event for all art lovers, whatever the budget. Prices range from under a tenner to over £1,000 so this is a great opportunity to buy direct from a wide range of artists including painters, printmakers, street artists and photographers examples of which can be found at www.urbanart.co.uk.
Last year the event attracted over 7,500 visitors and this July even more are expected. Additional attractions for Urban Art 2011 include:
i) Live Graffiti from Mr Cenz who will be creating a live piece during the two days
ii) Saturday Sound Stage showcasing an eclectic mix of cool Summer Sounds.
iii) Mouth watering selection of food stalls selling Mexican, Spicy Caribbean and Best of British.
iv) Pedestrianised Gallery area.
Urban Art was created in 2002 by Josephine Avenue resident and portrait artist Timothy Sutton who saw the railings in the street and realised it was a natural hanging space for art. ‘I knew that local artists were desperate to find places to show their work and this seemed an obvious solution’ he said. ‘The local community work really hard but it’s always a fun weekend so makes it all worth while; it’s kind of the Big Society in action. We’re also delighted that Trinity Hospice and Crown Lane Primary School will benefit this year, two local services who need the money.’
Brixton resident and artist, Martin Grover, who has been exhibiting at Urban Art since its inception, added: “In a short space of time Urban Art has become a well established cultural institution and 2011 will be my tenth time exhibiting. It always has a really friendly atmosphere; a great place to meet other artists and talk to visitors about my work. A must see event”.
