New Mini-Split Air Conditioner Makes 100 Gallons of Free Hot Water Per Day

Chesapeake VA – Hotspot Energy LLC has announced the release of the ACWH18, a 1.5 Ton Air Conditioner Water Heater. The ACWH provides highly efficient (SEER 18) indoor cooling while at the same time heating 100 gallons of hot water, or more, per day. The new triple-function AC is an air-source mini-split air conditioner with a built-in heat recovery water heating circuit.

The system is designed for commercial or residential users in southern climates where the air conditioner is used most of the year. It is sized for a home addition, converted garage or attic, workshop, etc., and can cool or heat approximately 750 square feet of space. The ductless mini-split design requires no duct work.

The unit connects just like any other ductless mini-split system, and then the outdoor unit is also connected to the user’s hot water tank. When the triple-function air conditioner is running in cooling mode, hot water is produced for free with no additional electrical consumption needed for heating the water. When operated in heating mode, hot water is produced at a 60-70% savings, leveraging the high EER/COP of the system. Under either cooling or heating operation, the user can expect strong electrical savings as the SEER 18 unit is highly efficient with its electrical consumption. The unit is engineered for safety using a 140F high limit on the water temperature, and using a NSF compliant and UL-Listed double-wall heat exchanger. The unit itself carries ETL and CSA Listings.

According to HotSpot Energy spokesperson Dan Diver, “This is great for us because we have had people ask us if heat recovery works with R410a high-SEER systems. I think the ACWH18 proves the point that it works very well”. Diver went on to mention that high-SEER equipment still has to reject the same amount of heat as a low SEER system. “It’s just a matter of capturing the heat and putting it in the hot water tank” said Diver.
