Operating on the different organs of the human body is a big challenge for every doctor and Dr. Pramod Giri faces this challenge with every surgery. Dr. Pramod Giri has been credited for various unique and challenging surgical procedures. He has taken out the longest human tail, 18 cm, in human history from the back of an 18-years-old teen! For instance, he had to remove a long iron rod safely from the head of the 21-years-old adult. “Operating complex spine cases like atlantoaxial dislocation is another feather in my cap,” Dr. Pramod says, “Transorally operating a spine is always a big challenge for our fraternity.” He performed around 350 vascular neurosurgeries and treated two knife, two rod, and a bombshell injury successfully in his neurosurgical career.

Dr. Pramod Giri has been practicing neurosurgery for over 15 years. He completed his graduate and postgraduate at Government Medical College in Nagpur. He received the Dr. Ramadwar Ideal Student Award in his graduate curriculum and Braun National Scholar Award in his post-graduate curriculum. He completed his superspecialization in neurosurgery at the Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute Of Medical Sciences in Lucknow, the most prestigious institute in India. Presently, he is a professor and head of the Department of Neurosurgery in Government Medical College and Director Owner of Neuron - Brain Spine And Critical Care Centre in Nagpur. His own Neuron Hospital is equipped with 150 beds and high-tech equipment, like neuronavigation, portable CT machine, robotic neuro rehab of HOCOMA, and more. He recently renovated one of his operation theaters for poor patients to a higher standard. He has performed over 30,000 neurosurgeries. “I have started my career with the dream of giving services to all class. The cost of neurosurgery was not affordable for many patients. so, I work at both places to serve the society,” Dr. Pramod states. He donated his government salary to only be used for purchasing and maintaining his department.

In his career, Dr. Pramod Giri faced the challenge of operating on the blood vessels in the brain. Aneurysm and Arteriovenous Malformation are the major diseases he treats and operates. He manages 1500 to 1600 operative neurosurgical cases at his center per year. He specializes in, brain tumor, brain hemorrhage, spine disorders, congenital malformation, and functional neurosurgery. He is specialized in techniques like intra-op MRI, neuronavigation, endoscopy, and more. “Saving human life is important but preventing the plight of neurological diseases is the aim,” Dr. Pramod says.

Dr. Pramod Giri received Yeshumitra Award from Chief Minister of Maharastra for his service for the poor in 2013. He also received Best Cerebrovascular And Skull Base Neurosurgeon In West India, Lokmat Vidharbha Icon Award, and Samaj Bhushan Award. Along with this, in 2019, he was awarded as one of the three best neurosurgeons in Nagpur, Maharashtra by Three Best Rated®.
