STATE SMALL BUSINESS ASSOCIATIONS HELPS EFFECT CHANGE FOR ALL

Press release from: mbpa

May 18, 2011 - It’s been years in the making, but Michigan is finally on the path to be truly business friendly. Thanks in no small part to the work of the more than 20,000 members of the Michigan Business and Professional Association and its sister organization, the Michigan Food and Beverage Association, the state got rid of the Single Business Tax, the Michigan Business Tax Surcharge and other encumbrances to productivity and profitably. With the passage of the new corporate tax bill last week in Lansing, business owners can breathe a sigh of relief.

“Our membership is thrilled,” said Edward Deeb, president of both Associations. “They can now concentrate on doing business, on growing business – and hiring more people to help them do it.”

“The Governor said it best when he explained that the new corporate tax structure would be simple, fair and efficient” Deeb continued.

“We think the people who were key in making it happen deserve recognition,” explained Jennifer Kluge, Executive Vice President and COO of the Associations. “So, on Wednesday, May 25, we’re hosting a reception to honor Speaker of the House Jase Bolger and Senate Majority Leader Randy Richardville. We will also take time at this event to applaud the work of the Michigan Economic Development Corporation President and CEO Michael A. Finney and the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (Director, Keith Creagh).”

“Getting us into the real world, and making Michigan a destination state for businesses, took courage and conviction on the part of both the legislative and executive branches,” said Deeb. “Our Associations are pleased that we were able to make our collective voices heard as well.”
