Known and well recognized for their infamous phrase "Because I'm worth it" which was initiated in the middle of the last decade, an analysis of the psychological implications of the slogan has meant that recently it was changed to "Because we're worth it" to make it more inclusive.
The company is very active in the charity sector. In 2006 the products division gave 15,000 Euros to the Hogar Camino de Esperanza project in Colombia which provides housing for young women who have been victims of physical abuse. In late 2010 associates of L’Oréal in New Jersey raised $400,000 dollars for the children’s specialized hospital. The money was used to renovate an outpatient centre located within the hospital which will help numerous patients in their rehabilitation from life changing illnesses and serious health problems.
Most recently however the company set up a programme called “Women of Worth”, which aims to promote and reward the real women who according to their website “Possess self – confidence and are committed to distinguishing their own lives by making a difference in the lives of others.” A donation of 5000 dollars will be given to the voted “Women of Worth” who in turn will be able to donate the money to a charity of their choosing.
