COT Season Finale Features Concert Singers of Cary

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (May 9, 2010) ― The Chamber Orchestra of the Triangle (thecot.org) concludes its 2010-2011 season on Sunday, May 15, 2011. The finale will feature guest performances by the Concert Singers of Cary (www.concertsingers.org).

Titled, “The Genius and His Foe,” the concert will feature performances of Antonio Salieri’s “Requiem in C minor” and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s “Requiem in D minor.” Performing soloists include: soprano Jacquelyn Culpepper, soprano Mary Gayle Greene, tenor Wade Henderson and bass Don Milholin.

Prior to the start of the concert, Lorenzo Muti, COT artistic director and conductor will present a lecture on the two featured composers that clarifies the myths and the reality of their parallel lives. Muti will also offer a discussion on what a requiem is and how the two works to be performed differ.

“This is a magnificent way to finish off our successful 28th concert season,” says David Lindquist, COT board director. “Guests will have a double treat of hearing maestro Muti and the Concert Singers of Cary.”

The concert will take place at 3 p.m. at the Carolina Theatre of Durham, 309 West Morgan Street, Durham, N.C. 27701. Muti’s lecture will precede the concert from 2:15 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. Tickets may be purchased at the box office or by calling 919.560.3030. To emphasize its commitment to engaging young people with great classical music, the orchestra provides free seating at every concert to students of all ages.
