EnigmaSoftware.com: Osama Bin Laden’s Death Brings Stirs Up New Creative Internet Scams

Press release from: Enigma Software Group

In a new article posted on Forbes.com, EnigmaSoftware.com’s Alvin Estevez outlines how ‘Scammers Roil The Internet In Wake Of Bin Laden’s Death.

The post on Forbes.com from Enigma Software highlights how computer users can follow easy steps to “avoid being taken to the bank by Web scam artists who are using one of the biggest news events in recent memory – the death of Osama bin Laden – to steal credit card, bank account and Social Security numbers.”

The recent news stories about Bin Laden’s death have virtually created a media frenzy where just about every viable news media outlet has something to say on the matter. What many of them fail to reveal about this significant news is how hackers and cybercrooks are taking advantage of it.

Basically, cybercrooks are flooding the internet with scams that either loot related search engine results with malicious links or promote scam sites through clever social network engineering.

Recently a large number of Facebook users reported clicking on links that supposedly reveal images of Bin Laden’s dead body or ones that claim to have video footage of the Navy Seal Team raid. Neither of these links actually fulfills their promise but instead lead computer users to phishing sites that attempt to collect personal information. Even worse, as Enigma Software points out in the Forbes article, a fake Bin Laden photo is being circulated and those who do not realize that it is fake, have fallen victim to several scams.
