SILVER SPRING, MD (May 3, 2011) -- Walter Rybeck, a retired journalist and economist who has spent his life searching for answers to poverty and related socio-economic problems, will speak about these themes from his book “Re-Solving the Economic Puzzle” on Wednesday, May 18, from 7:30 - 8:30 p.m., at Riderwood retirement community’s Lakeside Commons Clubhouse, 3140 Gracefield Road, Silver Spring, Maryland (seating is limited; please RSVP to: Mel.Tansill@Erickson.com )

Rybeck’s talk will focus on what officials and citizens can do to help heal the economy. He will assess how modernizing of land and taxation policies can become keys to saving cities, saving the countryside and saving the enterprise system.

“Re-Solving the Economic Puzzle is published by Shepheard-Walwyn of London, England, a publisher that specializes in economic justice issues. Rybeck wrote the 238-page book over a two-year period.

Rybeck worked as a Latin American correspondent, editorial writer and Washington Bureau Chief for Cox Newspapers. He served as assistant director of the National Commission on Urban Problems, editorial director of the Urban Institute, and special assistant to two congressmen. He also was the founding-director of the Center for Public Dialogue, which did economic research.

Rybeck is a native of Wheeling, West Virginia. He married his wife, Erika, in 1954 in Dayton, Ohio. They lived in Kensington, Maryland, prior to their move to Riderwood six years ago.
