Garden City, New York, March 21, 2011 -- GerMedUSA Inc., a manufacturer and supplier of high-quality surgical instruments announces the distribution of the patent pending Sequential Suture Holder ™, also referred to as the Vijay-Robinson Sequential Holder.

This innovative surgical instrument was invented by Dr R. Vijay, M.D. His idea was inspired by his colleague and mentor, the late Dr. George Robinson. Dr. Robinson was Chief of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery at the Montefiore Hospital & Medical Center. He was also the Professor of Surgery at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He is noted as the first to perform heart valve replacement and the first doctor to implant the pacemaker in a patient.

During 1969-1972, there were no surgical instruments available in the medical world to hold several sutures for heart valve replacement and other surgeries. This caused the sutures to tangle. As a result, this prolonged the process of surgery. The Sequential Suture Holder ™ makes surgical procedures less time-consuming and easier to handle.

This surgical instrument is designed to easily attach to a surgical drape. As the sutures pass through the annulus of the heart valve, they’re applied to clamps and placed into the Vijay-Robinson Sequential Suture Holder. This innovative idea for the sequential suture holder has revolutionized the way surgeons perform surgery.

About the Sequential Suture Holder ™

The sutures are detached one-by-one, in sequential order and applied to the sewing ring of the artificial heart valve. Then the needles are cut and all the sequential sutures in the holder are lifted up to maneuver the heart valve into the proper position. Then without any strings hanging below, the sutures are tied and cut.
