‘Qatar Education’ Receives Strong Endorsement

Fast advancing as the education hub of the Gulf Region, the Qatari Government are proudly positioning high level learning as a key resource of their country. A key achievement, this role will further realise the highly strategic and ambitious cornerstones of the Qatar National Vision 2030 that places focus on Human, Social, Economic and Environmental development – education and research being critical to these challenges.

Qatar University (QU), the state’s oldest and leading higher education institution, has placed the National Vision at the forefront of its own vision to be a model in the region - recognised for high-quality research and as a leader of economic and social development. Strong government support and partnerships with a wide range of key sectors – academia, business, industry, and civil society – have positioned QU as an invaluable resource for prospective employers seeking well-qualified graduates to contribute to the country’s development.

Starting in 2003, the institution, in line with Qatar education reform initiatives, has been transforming its administrative and academic structure. To ensure the lasting quality of its programmes, QU has gained a number of prestigious accreditation achievements from well-recognized international accrediting bodies for its College of Business & Economics, College of Education, College of Pharmacy, Foundation Program Department of English, Biomedical Sciences Program, Chemistry Program, and Statistics Program. Along with other ongoing accreditation exercises throughout the institution, QU is itself seeking institution-wide accreditation from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) in the US. This achievement will further advance the institution’s growing reputation as a model of excellence.

Another example of the Government’s solid commitment and vast investment in the burgeoning education initiative is the Qatar Foundation’s creation of Education City - a stunning 1,400 hectare campus that houses a number of progressive and instructive organisations and research centres, alongside a selection of elite international universities, including Georgetown University, HEC Paris, Carnegie Mellon University to name but a few.

Growing steadily, the City’s progress is attracting attention globally, in particular from well-known international institutions who are seeking a base in the region.
To further support and perpetuate this solid escalation of development and business potential in the sector of education, the Qatar Education Conference and Exhibition has been launched. A dynamic two day conference, that provides opportunities to meet and hold discussions with a high level Qatari delegation and their international partners in London.

Taking place on 7-8 June, at the Millennium Gloucester Hotel in Kensington, Qatar Education will present a packed agenda of workshops, case studies, expert insight, networking sessions, exhibition and individual 1-2-1 private meetings between leading European academia and key members of the Qatar Alumni and Government.

Endorsement has been strong with Qatar University immediately signing up to be a leading sponsor of the event. Its President, H.E. Prof Sheikha Abdulla Al-Misnad is at the forefront of the Qatar education drive, and in this capacity as well as Board of Director of Qatar Foundation, she is a key figure in the creation and implementation of Qatar Education City.
