New York City adds 17,000 jobs in March, NewYorkCrossing finds 17,000 jobs.
Pasadena, CA, April 15, 2011 – New York City’s unemployment rate went down in March as the city was able to create around 17,700 jobs. There are still 767,000 unemployed New Yorkers and the city has created around 33,000 private sector jobs in 2011.The city’s unemployment rate now stands at 8.7 percent, with employers adding employees for the third month in a row. The Labor Department says that the number of jobs created in March was consistent with the city’s monthly average of job creation for the last 10 years. The construction industry also picked up following the slowdown in January and February.
The two main sectors that did not do so well were the financial services sector and the media industry. Both the sectors lost jobs in March, although so far in 2011, they have created more jobs than lost them. The financial sector has created around 6,500 jobs so far and the media industry has added around 1,500 jobs. Wall Street lost 600 jobs but the larger financial services sector which takes into account commercial banking and insurance had a total of 433,000 employees as of March.
NewYorkCrossing, a job aggregator site, has been tracking all the available jobs in the city and has found that the main sectors with the most openings were as follows: managerial (3,000+), information technology (3,000+), financial services (2,000+), healthcare (1,500+), and sales (1,500+). The site has been able to find a total of over 17,000 jobs in New York City this week.
NewYorkCrossing is part of the Employment Research Institute, one of the most powerful and comprehensive job search institutions dedicated to helping professionals find jobs that will enhance their careers. Employment Research Institute consists of 90+ industry-specific job boards and 100+ location-specific job boards which consolidate every job opening it can find in one convenient location.
