Cummins Revs up Manufacturing with Apriso
Global engine and power systems leader standardizes on Apriso’s FlexNet for global engine and component manufacturing operationsLONG BEACH, CA – April 11, 2011 — Apriso, a leading provider of software solutions for sustained manufacturing operational excellence, today announced Cummins Inc. (NYSE: CMI), a global power leader, has chosen to standardize on Apriso’s FlexNet as its enterprise Manufacturing Execution System.
Cummins has implemented Apriso’s FlexNet in the UK and US as well as to fuel strategic growth in Brazil, India and China. Cummins will now expand their relationship with Apriso by implementing FlexNet as its standardized software platform for global assembly, manufacturing and re-build operations. FlexNet will be leveraged to manage production and quality execution through expanded initiatives surrounding directed manufacturing, genealogy, track & trace, defect containment and other programs.
“As a next-generation solution for manufacturing operations management, FlexNet enables Cummins to take a more global perspective on continuous improvement for higher quality, greater efficiency and lower costs by delivering better real-time visibility and control over our operations,” said Robert D. Borchelt, Director, Manufacturing IT Systems & Industrial Controls, EBU Global Manufacturing Engineering of Cummins Inc.
Cummins will use FlexNet across its manufacturing operations, including machining, engine assembly and related technologies such as fuel systems, controls, air handling, filtration, emission solutions and electrical power generation systems. By replacing disparate, legacy systems with FlexNet, Cummins can support both Make-to-Order (MTO) engine assembly as well as Make-to-Stock (MTS) components with a single manufacturing execution platform. With FlexNet, Cummins can streamline operations, increase efficiency and achieve greater global flexibility to respond faster to changing customer and market conditions.
“Given the tighter capacity utilization environment in which we now operate, Apriso has helped us to improve efficiency and throughput by up to 15 percent while at the same time simplifying our IT architecture, enabling greater manufacturing flexibility without IT assistance,” said Bryan Moorman, Director, Global Manufacturing Systems, Corporate Functions IT of Cummins Inc.
“Apriso offers Cummins a global manufacturing solution to identify and standardize best practices based on knowledge captured from continuous process improvement for greater productivity and manufacturing efficiency. As new sites go live and new functionality is added, Cummins has the opportunity to deliver even greater value to their customers and shareholders,” said Fred Thomas, industry director at Apriso.
