3M Extends Range of Disposable Scale Control Filters for Coffee and Vending Applications

New range prevents scale formation, helping to minimise machine downtime and expensive service calls

Bracknell, UK, 4 April 2011 – Diversified technology company 3M will display its popular range of scale control filters for coffee and vending operators on Stand C74 at AVEX 2011, 15-16 June, NEC Birmingham. A main highlight includes the new ScaleGard Pro H+ Range of disposable scale control filtration systems from 3M. These are designed to reduce scale forming minerals and, therefore, scale build up, helping to minimise service costs on coffee and vending equipment. Also on the stand will be the floor-mounted 3M ScaleGard Pro (SGP) P1175 Anti-scale Filter and 3M AP2-G Water Filters.

ScaleGard Pro H+ Scale Control System
3M’s new scale control filters feature different resin to the standard range. This new non buffered resin competes directly with alternative offerings and allows for an extension in capacity claims due to suppression of the pH. As per the standard range, it includes a carbon block post filter to reduce chlorine taste and odour in vended drinks. The special resin is optimised to prevent hard scale formation in the heating coils of coffee or vending machines to ensure maximum uptime and efficient energy usage. Available for bypass and non-bypass models, recipe quality water can be delivered for hot beverages, as well as steamers or steam arms.

The disposable cartridge system enables lower investment and service costs than alternative pod systems. It offers higher capacities than the standard ScaleGard Pro Water Filter Range and has an encapsulated design, which increases the life span of operator equipment and reduces change-outs. Its Sanitary Quick Change (SQC) head facilitates rapid change-out, when required, with no expertise or tools and without having to turn off the water supply. Furthermore, there is no concern regarding contamination or leaks as ‘O’ rings are changed in a quarter turn with the cartridge. The new filters can be mounted inside cabinets or off the floor and are easy to connect to existing pipework.

3M will also be showing its ScaleGard Pro P1175 Anti-scale Filter designed to give coffee and vending operators a competitive advantage by offering increased hardness reduction capacity, at a cost-effective price. The filter is floor mounted and is available in two versions – fixed bypass (P1175BN-E) and non bypass (P1175E). The non bypass version enables entry into the steamer market and the fixed bypass version delivers 6000 litres of hardness reduction at 180ppm (parts per million) for delivery of consistent, quality drinks in coffee and vending machines. Its use of an integral filtered and proportional bypass means all water goes through 3M’s advanced carbon block filter technology.

The full SGP range of water filters will also be on display - SGP115, SGP124, SGP145, SGP165 and SGP195 – catering for a variety of flow rates and lifetime requirements.

3M AP2-G Water Filter
Additionally, 3M will demonstrate its AP2-G Water Filters for mains-fed coolers – the smallest filter for water coolers on the market today, with the highest capacity. Utilising enhanced filtration technology, the new filters use 53 per cent less plastic than the original 3M AP2 Water Filter Rangewithout compromising performance, making them a more compact and cost-effective choice for operators of cold water dispensing machines. By using less plastic in production the filters reduce waste and represent an environmentally responsible source of clean, great tasting, quality drinking water.
