How Pharmacy Can Prepare for Meaningful Use

Bellevue, Wash. – Wolters Kluwer Health announced today that Pharmacy OneSource, software-as-a-service provider of Sentri7, a clinical surveillance application, is hosting a complimentary webinar with John Poikonen, PharmD, on "Meaningful Use for the Pharmacist."

Not since "prospective payment" has two words caused so much activity in hospitals and health systems. Demonstrating "Meaningful Use" of health information technology can mean millions of stimulus dollars for a health system and even more once penalties kick in. Stage I of Meaningful Use preparation is well on the way with many hospitals. Stage II and III will up the ante, requiring even more input from pharmacy. Poikonen will outline the key elements of Meaningful Use, its opportunity for the medication use process and the way pharmacists can have an impact.

About the Presenter: John Poikonen, Pharm.D. is the Clinical Informatics Director at UMass Memorial Health Care, an Academic Medical Center and health system in central Massachusetts. His career has been split between software development and hospital pharmacy. He has been a director of pharmacy, software developer, patient safety pharmacist and informatics leader over the last 29 years in pharmacy. Most recently he was elected to the ASHP Executive Committee for Pharmacy Informatics and Technology Section in 2007 and was the recipient of the 2008 Leadership Award from the American Medical Informatics Association.
