Press release from: Back to Basics Learning Dynamics

Wilmington, Delaware, March 18, 2011 -- It’s estimated that 93 million US adults have only basic or below basic literacy skills. Back to Basics Learning Dynamics, Inc. in a unique partnership with the literacy organization Success Won’t Wait, Inc., delivered close to 1,000 children’s books in Children’s Book Baskets throughout the State of Delaware during National I Love to Read Month.

“This is a literacy project that has incredibly wide-reaching consequences,” explains Back to Basics’ President and Founder Beverly Stewart, M.Ed. “If each of these baskets encourages three children per day to pick up a book or have a parent read aloud to them (a conservative estimate), over the course of just one year, over 20,000 children will read a book.”

Each basket contained 40+ books including a wide variety of titles geared toward children of all ages and interests. Throughout February, National I Love to Read Month, Back to Basics tutors, office staff and students delivered the baskets to high traffic waiting rooms and lobbies in a variety of locations where children frequently wait. Some examples of locations that received book baskets include doctors’ and dentists’ offices, hair salons, dance and karate studios, and auto repair shops.

This partnership links together two organizations with a common quest: to eradicate illiteracy in the State of Delaware and provide the educational tools for success to those who need them most. Back to Basics was founded in 1985 as a tutoring service specializing in one-on-one instruction for children and adults, and quickly gained a reputation for excellence and dedication to its students’ successes. The company has consistently given back to the community in variety of initiatives and in fact, this is the third joint effort between Back to Basics and Success Won’t Wait.

This project was created in response to literacy statistics that rank access to reading materials as one of the most important predictors of a child’s future reading success. According to Sanford Newman in his book American's Child Care Crisis: A Crime Prevention Tragedy, “The most successful way to improve the reading achievement of low-income children is to increase their access to print. Communities ranking high in achievement tests have several factors in common: an abundance of books in public libraries, easy access to books in the community at large and a large number of textbooks per student.”

Since 1985, the award-winning tutors and instructors at Back to Basics have provided children and adults with exceptional one-on-one tutoring, small group workshops, and enrollment in our unique private school.

Back to Basics employs 80 experienced, professional educators, all of whom hold Bachelor, Master or Doctorate degrees. These caring, supportive teachers know how to help students develop confidence, improve skills, and succeed, using their particular learning style. Every tutor is hand picked to meet the optimum success of each student and create a strong rapport between a student and a tutor.
