GREENPACKET 1st TO LAUNCH IWLAN CLIENT FOR SECURED DATA OFFLOAD
Kuala Lumpur, 17 March 2011 – Greenpacket, a leading developer of next generation mobile broadband and networking solutions, launched Intouch iWLAN Client - the world’s first Interworking Wireless LAN (iWLAN) Client as part of its Intouch Connection Management (ICM) solution. The Greenpacket ICM, which manages data congestion by offloading data traffic from secured 3G networks to unsecured WiFi networks, can now ensure a high level of security to the operator’s home network with the integration of the Intouch iWLAN Client. The solution enables operators to maintain full control over their subscribers’ wireless access. The Intouch iWLAN Client supports all popular OS platforms - Android, Symbian, Windows and Mac OS - and can even be extended to LTE Evolved Packet Core. The solution has successfully completed testing and integration with Cisco’s Packet Data Gateway (PDG).
Kelvin Lee, Senior General Manager of Green Packet Berhad said, “Greenpacket’s latest innovation is a big boost to our broad portfolio of intelligent connectivity solutions. Operators currently face the dilemma of having to manage heavy data traffic at the expense of losing sight of their subscribers: With the Intouch iWLAN Client, they have full control of subscriber’s WiFi access and on top of that, enjoy a new VAS revenue stream offering anything from video and audio streaming, to ringtones, application downloads and games.”
The launch of Greenpacket’s iWLAN Client for secured data offloading is timely with mobile data usage hitting network capacities. With greater access to more powerful mobile devices and smartphones, the operator’s key challenge of data congestion could only intensify. Lee said operators have a real need for iWLAN’s secured data offloading, and in step with Asia being ranked first in global mobile data usage in a recent report, Greenpacket’s iWLAN client is seeing early traction in China, India and Indonesia.
Greenpacket will be showcasing the Intouch iWLAN Client at Greenpacket’s booth #3961 at the upcoming CTIA Wireless 2011 on 22 to 24 March in Orlando, Florida.
Technical specifications for Intouch iWLAN Client
The Intouch iWLAN client works on top of 3GPP iWLAN Specification (TS23.234) to provide a high level of data security to the operator when switching between 3G and WiFi networks via an ‘IPSecurity/Internet Key Exchange version 2’ (IPSec/IKEv2) encrypted tunnel back to the home network. The implementation of iWLAN with a simple client installed onto the end-user’s device seamlessly authenticate subscribers as they switch across to unsecured WiFi networks via Extensible Authentication Protocol for GSM Subscriber Identity Module (EAP-SIM).
The Intouch iWLAN Client supports all popular OS platforms such as Android, Symbian, Windows and Mac OS and can even be extended to LTE Evolved Packet Core as the Intouch iWLAN Client is built on a standardized architecture.
