Press release from: Converge Coworking

Union, NJ – March 16, 2011 – Mobile phone developers, hobbyists, and students will compete to create innovative phone applications in a 24 hour “Hackathon”.

NJ Mobile App Development Contest
Saturday March 26th and 27th 2011
12:00 p.m. Saturday to 2:00pm Sunday
Converge Coworking
1000 Morris Ave, CSW Building Kean University
Union, NJ 07083

Talented developers, designers, and students from around NJ will come together on March 26th and 27th for a common purpose: to build the best mobile phone applications they can in a 24hr period for prizes and recognition.
The objective of the event is to bring the NJ Tech community together by showcasing our local talent. Mobile development is the most vibrant, innovative area of tech growth today; so we’re giving these talented people a great platform to build innovative applications, future businesses, and strong relationships.
That’s pretty significant.
NJ is often discounted in the startup and tech spheres as the place you drive past between New York and Philly, but the organizers are hoping to change that starting with this Hackathon. David Kay, a prominent New Jersey developer and the founder of NJ Mobile says, “We have a vision of building a strong tech community in NJ by being relevant and accessible to the talented people in our own backyard. This is just the start.”
Sharing David’s vision are the people behind Converge Coworking, NJ’s first coworking space. Roger Salazar the Community Manager at Converge says,” We’re really excited so many people share our vision of NJ’s potential. It won’t just be about NY anymore. The time has come.”
The event has gathered support from several sponsors, who will be supplying food and prizes for all the contestants; these include companies such as Linode, Twilio, oDesk, and Kazaam Interactive. More are expected to be announced closer to the date of the event.
The event will begin on Saturday March 26th and end on the 27th. The contest is open to the public; professionals, students, and amateurs are all welcome to participate. Spectators are also welcome. The contestants will be provided with meals, snacks, a break room, and movies for their comfort during the competition. Judging will begin at 12:00pm the following day, spectators are encouraged to visit on Saturday and Sunday to learn about the contestants and watch them unveil their products.

We aim to foster the development of the NJ tech community with our group.

About Converge Coworking: Converge is a collaborative workspace that opened in June 2010. It serves as a resource for small businesses, freelancers, and entrepreneurs.
