Medical Specialties Degree Offered by CollegeAmerica Prepares Students for Certifications and Licensure

Colorado Springs, Colorado, March 15, 2011 - CollegeAmerica has announced an Associate of Occupational Studies (AOS) in Medical Specialties program designed to prepare students for a variety of possible certifications and licensures in the field. The degree is offered as part of CollegeAmerica’s FastFlex program, which allows a student to complete their degree in less-than-normal completion time, in order to give their career a head start.

“Medical specialty” is an umbrella term used for a wide variety of administrative and clinical careers related to healthcare. The medical specialties degree offered by CollegeAmerica is geared toward training graduates for entry-level opportunities in the various fields that come under its span. As part of their academic program, students will studytopics as diverse as medical coding andbilling, medical assisting, laboratory assisting, phlebotomy, and more. Some of the professions that graduates of this program can consider include physician’s assistant, lab technician, and (limited scope) radiologic technologist.

The medical specialties degree program further helps students by preparing them for relevant certifications and licensures. Some certifications are required by law in certain states, while others may just help boost students’ job prospects and career growth. The certifications/licensures which students can apply for include NCICS-Billing and Coding, RPT Radiology Practical Technician-License, Lab Technician, etc. However, these certifications may require additional study and involve extra costs for the student, and CollegeAmerica does not guarantee that graduates of the medical specialties program will pass the required exams to obtain these licensures/certifications.

The AOS in Medical Specialties is currently available at the Colorado, Wyoming, and Arizona campuses of CollegeAmerica. Interested candidates who meet the eligibility criteria are required to attend a campus interview before they can start school.
