The Legacy comes alive with the 47th Shankar-Shad Mushaira
New Delhi, 08 March, 2011: The Annual Shankar Shad Mushaira is a legacy to commemorate the memory of Sir Shankar Lall & Sir Murli Dhar of the DCM conglomerate, who are known for their contribution to the social, educational and cultural life of New Delhi, as the patron of Urdu poetry. The Shankar-Shad Mushaira created an enduring relationship that transcends all boundaries and shaped an unbelievable bonhomie amongst poets from both India and Pakistan. This annual event, courtesy the DCM Shriram Group, united the two diverse cultures on a common platform- their love for Urdu poetry.The Mushaira, held on 05 March, 2011, was enriched by poets like Ms. Zehra Nigah and Mr. Ghulam Abbas, Zakia Gazal from Pakistan, sharing dias space with them were their Indian counterparts - Mr. Javed Akhtar, Mr. Shaharyaar, Prof. Waseem Barelvi, Ms. Deepti Mishra, Mr. Anwar Jalalpuri, Mr. Bekal Utsahi, Munnawar Rana, Manzar Bhopali, Popular Meeruti, Iqbal Ashar to name a few.
"We are proud of maintaining the dignity and aesthetic standard of Shayari with the Shankar Shad Mushaira year after year. The Mushaira plays a significant role in the cultural life of the Capital. The 47th Shankar Shad Mushaira, a periodic symposium which symbolises the changing face of Urdu Poetry, came alive at Modern School, Barakhamba Road. The grounds of Modern school were seen bustling with activity as the legendary poets from both India and Pakistan graced the occasion. The Shankar–Shad Mushaira has been captivating our hearts year after year with soulful renditions by the wondrous poets. This year, the Mushaira successfully carried on the bequeathal of the past Mushairas.
The evening witnessed enthralling and soulful performances by the talented poets, which led the audience to a state of ecstasy. The Bazm-e-Mushaira was attended by several eminent personage and poet lovers, all swaying to the rhythm of the Mushaira.
