Womble Carlyle Named Top Bond Counsel in North Carolina for 3rd Consecutive Year
RALEIGH, N.C.—There is an old saying that “If something happens three times, it’s a trend.” If so, then Womble Carlyle being named the Top Bond Counsel in North Carolina is now a trend.For the third consecutive year—and for the fourth time in five years—The Bond Buyer has ranked Womble Carlyle the number one bond counsel in North Carolina, based on approved public bond transactions.
In addition, Womble Carlyle provided its legal services on bond issues by the top five bond issuers in the state (as also ranked by The Bond Buyer). The firm was:
Bond counsel on all bonds issued by Wake County and RDU;
Bond counsel on a major transaction by the State (more than $500,000,000);
Underwriter’s counsel on the bond issue by the State Education Assistance Authority; and
Bond counsel or hospital counsel on several transactions by the Medical Care Commission.
Other major bond transactions for which the firm provided services in one capacity or another in 2011 included transactions for the Cities of Raleigh, Greensboro and
Gastonia, the Towns of Cary and Apex, Forsyth County, Guilford County, Moore County and Pitt County, the Board of Governors of the University of North Carolina and North Carolina Municipal Power Agency No. 1.

Womble Carlyle serves as bond counsel on numerous types of municipal bond financings throughout the State of North Carolina, representing various state agencies, cities, counties and special purpose authorities in financing various capital projects such as public utilities, public buildings and infrastructure, health care facilities, public and private schools and housing projects.
