Oran Diagnostics Adds Reproductive Health to License Agreement with Carmel Diagnostics
BERWYN, PA, February 14, 2011. Oran Diagnostics, LLC, a privately held diagnostics company, today announced that it has expanded its exclusive worldwide license agreement with Carmel Diagnostics, Ltd. of Kiryat Tivon, Israel, to include reproductive health. This expansion into reproductive medicine enables Oran to continue development of TCL-EV™, a rapid, non-invasive procedure that can be used to identify embryos with the greatest reproductive potential in patients undergoing IVF. TCL-EV™ is designed to enhance IVF outcomes and potentially reduce the frequency of multiple gestations. The TCL-EV ™ assay is based on the TCL-Analyzer, a platform technology developed by Carmel Diagnostics that measures oxidative stress and oxidizability in biologic samples using the proprietary method of thermochemiluminescence (TCL).Bruce Goldstein, President and CEO of Oran Diagnostics, commented, “Oran’s objective is to provide IVF practitioners an objective method for viable embryo selection that will allow them to reduce the number of embryos transferred while increasing pregnancy rates. The unmet need for such an assay is enormous.” As recently shown in a study published in Fertility and Sterility, the TCL profile of an embryo is associated with the chances of successful outcome, and TCL-EV™ may serve as a useful tool for improving embryo selection in IVF. Oran is commencing a multi-center, multi-national validation study of TCL-EV™ to further support the development and commercialization of TCL-EV™.
Oran also continues to develop TCL-HF™, a rapid, accurate, and inexpensive prognostic marker that aids in assessing disease severity in patients diagnosed with heart failure and allows the clinician to intervene earlier and modify treatment to meet an individual patient’s therapeutic needs. Pipeline products include assays to diagnose and monitor neurologic and neurodegenerative diseases.
