What happened to new businesses in 2010?
Antony Allen, managing director (NBD), commented “NBD is a division of data8 and this is the second review of the statistics we produce and it gives an insight into how various sectors are changing during the recession”.
Allen continued, “All the data is validated by our team of researchers who as well confirming address details, supply additional information such as the manager/decision maker of the business, email addresses and if the company has a website. The data has proved to be very effective for companies wanting to contact businesses who have just started.” NBD also say that they have companies who’s marketing strategy is to contact businesses six and twelve months after start and they are able to supply the data for their campaigns.
NDB classify their information into four groups, new branch of existing business, new business, new owner of business and relocated business. Over the year it shows that the proportion of new businesses has increased with declines in businesses getting new owners or relocating.
Further analysis shows an increase over the year of the Food, Retail and Wholesale sector with declines in the Service sector.
Looking at specific businesses, hair and beauty salons and restaurants have shown a steady growth. Along with Alternative and Complimentary Medicines and Therapies, in particular there has been a large increase in the number of fish pedicure outlets opening.
