Mokhtar screens this week in the Berlin International Film Festival

Berlin, Germany – Director Halima Ouardiri's debut film has been chosen to screen this week during Direct Fiction, a special event at the Canadian embassy in Berlin, Germany on February 17. Following the presentation of her film, Halima along with two other Canadian directors whose films are also screening this week in the Berlin International Film Festival, will participate in an artist talk. This year's event is moderated by Maike Mia Hoehne from the Berlinale Shorts program and Maryanne Redpath from the Berlinale Generation program.

Direct cinema as a documentary genre, originated in the late 50s and early 60s in North America-- primarily in Quebec and the United States and is characterized by a filmmaker's aim to directly capture reality and represent it truthfully, while questioning the relationship between reality and cinema.
