Demonstrates pre-configured Platform with

Wind River Network Acceleration Platform at RSA Conference

SAN FRANCISCO, CA, February 14, 2011 – Advantech (TWSE: 2395.TW), a global manufacturer of telecom computing blades and multi-core network processor platforms, today announced its FWA-6500-WRS Intel® architecture-based reference kit platform at RSA 2011. The fully integrated system utilizes multi-core Intel® processors and allows for a scalable port mix of the latest GbE and 10 GbE LAN controllers. The FWA-6500-WRS runs the Wind River Network Acceleration Platform (NAP) and is targeted at network application software developers building advanced multi-core packet processing applications.

“Our fast-to-deploy FWA-6500-WRS reference platform provides our customers with the latest multi-core software development environment to build state-of-the-art packet processing applications,” stated Peter Marek, Director x86 Solutions for Advantech’s Networks and Telecom Group. “Providing multi-core optimized software allows customers to benefit from significant performance enhancements across an entire range of devices from the core of the network to the edge. Advantech has also designed the systems to be incrementally upgraded as next-generation Intel® processors and 40 GbE controllers become available. Using our reference platform accelerates our customer’s software development and works to preserve their R&D investment as hardware technology evolves.”

The new reference platform is based on the Advantech FWA-6500 Network Server, a 2U enterprise appliance with two of the Intel® Xeon® processor 5600 series, each with up to six processing cores. The system includes up to 96GB of DDR3 memory and has capacity for two PCIe add-on cards and two 2.5” removable SATA HDDs. Network interfaces are highly configurable, utilizing four extension slots that can utilize a mixture of 4-port GbE, 8-port GbE or 2-port 10 GbE network interface cards. IPMI 2.0 is fully integrated into the system for remote management, maintenance and diagnostics.

“The new system deploys the latest Ethernet controllers from Intel with built-in Intel® Virtualization Technology (Intel® VT-x) and Intel® Virtualization Technology for Directed I/O (Intel® VT-d), and Intel® I/O Acceleration technology (Intel® I/OAT) 3,” continued Marek. “This smart configurability allows the internal motherboard and I/O modules to be independently upgraded, allowing our customers to cost effectively adapt their development platform as technology improves.”

“Using a server style platform for evaluation and development provides a fast-to-deploy solution for our OEM customers by eliminating the need for blade and software integration,” concluded Marek. “For production systems, Advantech's expertise in the application of multi-core technology across multiple architectures allows us to offer the same Intel® architecture platform on both appliances and blades.”

Advantech is demonstrating the new FWA-6500-WRS reference kit in Booth 217 at the RSA 2011 Conference 14-18 February in Moscone Center, San Francisco, CA, USA, and in Hall 2.0, Booth 2G38 at Mobile World Congress 2011, 14-17 February in Barcelona, Spain
