The recent world wide travel advisory issued by the US Government, socio-political upheaval in the region and history of terrorist attacks on sporting events (attack on the Sri Lankan team in Pakistan in 2008, blast during IPL III in Bangalore and attack on Thai nationals before Commonwealth Games in 2010 in New Delhi), have intensified the ongoing debate around the security of forthcoming 2011 World Cup Cricket to be held in Indian sub-continent (India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka) from 19 Feb to 02 Apr 2011.
Terrorists target people and events that make news. As cricket , cricket franchisee owners and players are high profile targets, terrorist groups may plan sabotage/destruction to jeopardise the world cup and create embarrassment for India. While security at the venue itself may be adequate, terrorists may plan strikes in the vicinity of venues.
We advise you to be extra vigilant in case you are planning a visit to the Indian sub-continent during the World Cup.

Do’s and Dont's for Foreign Nationals

Foreign nationals should have good in-country briefing before they travel around. Be aware of surroundings and observe security precautions as advised during travel to Mumbai, New Delhi, Bangalore and other sporting venues in India and neighbouring countries. Do not ID yourself by wearing your country colours in public.

Be vigilant; look for signs of trouble; err on the side of caution. Be aware of suspect packages or suspicious activities and report them.

Avoid public places frequented by and popular with foreign nationals. Exercise high degree of caution especially at tourist sites and government installations. Respect local customs.

Always have a means of communication with you and make others know about your whereabouts when you are outside the hotel.

Observe health precautions against H1N1 and mosquito induced diseases; ensure food and water hygiene.

Government as well as corporate BCM and emergency response machinery should be extra prepared to pre-empt and respond adequately to events/incidents/emergencies/intelligence.

Don’t carry metallic objects like pocket knife etc.
Be sportive, don’t encourage fans fight.
Do not support hooliganism.
Do not spread rumour.
Be patient during exit.
Co-operate in frisking.
Park your vehicle at the right place.
Do inform police about suspicious objects/activities.
