Copenhagen, Denmark, February 2, 2011, Anritsu A/S, a global provider of Operations Support Systems (OSS) for advanced and converged networks, today announced the availability of eoCompass™, a comprehensive radio access network (RAN) management solution

The source of most dropped calls, slow downloads and poor quality voice connections, is the radio access network (RAN). The RAN is also the most complex and expensive part of the mobile network to optimise as the demands on it are very dynamic, changing as subscribers move, use bandwidth hungry applications and enter buildings and vehicles. Since the launch of mobile networks, the primary tool to optimise the RAN has been drive tests, and the poor quality of service often experienced demonstrates that this is a far from an ideal solution.

Anritsu has addressed this challenge with eoCompass™. The new eoCompass™ application supports network optimisation, fault investigation, customer care and network planning. It is fully integrated with the MasterClaw® end-to-end performance management system, and builds on Anritsu’s established radio competence retained from its highly successful GSM Compass tool.

Marketing Director Neil Tomlinson said “With eoCompass™, information that is usually only available from drive tests is captured directly from the Iub interface. Beyond drive testing, eoCompass™ provides 24/7 capture of all events in the radio network. Powerful visualisation techniques enable users to overlay network performance on maps, and even geo-locate users based on reconstructing their call history. eoCompass™ includes a suite of applications that address the primary needs of network operations, planning, engineering, customer care, marketing and executives. Anritsu continues to extend its MasterClaw® ‘built-in work-flows’ strategy, so applications guide a user through a task from problem detection through to cause identification closing with resolution confirmation, in the shortest time and with the minimum number of ‘clicks’”.

“Enabling our customers to manage their whole network, from IMS Core to UMTS Radio, with one tool provides them with huge efficiency gains and competitive advantage. We have seen problems that had been causing massive customer dissatisfaction for months solved in hours with MasterClaw®” said Robin Wheeler, V.P. Global Sales and Business Development.

eoCompass™ is available now for regional or network-wide commercial deployment in UMTS networks.
