Press release from: SGS Industrial Services

Aramco awarded SGS the contract to provide professional Supply Chain Services.

Aramco awarded SGS the contract to provide professional Supply Chain Services.

Industrial producers in all markets aspire to offer the best possible quality for competitive prices. This requires the best possible parts and raw materials for the best price-quality mix, which drives an ever-increasing need to have more control over the supply chain. For this reason, in November 2010, SGS Industrial Services was awarded a three year contract to provide comprehensive Supply Chain Services by Aramco Overseas Company B.V. (AOC).

AOC (http://www.aramcooverseas.com/en) is a subsidiary of the Saudi Arabian Oil Company and operates primarily in Europe, Asia, Australia and Africa, providing its affiliates in the Saudi Aramco global oil and gas enterprise with a wide range of services. The three year contract, with potential for another two years, covers Far East countries such as Singapore, Malaysia, China, Japan, Korea, and India.

Beginning work in January 2011, SGS will help Aramco Overseas to achieve the “zero defect” goal it has set itself through systematic and reliable Quality Control (http://www.sgs.com/quality-assurance-and-quality-control?serviceId=16857&lobId=5550). SGS will be providing extensive inspection services by performing monitoring functions and source inspections, for Aramco’s oil and gas commodities. SGS monitoring inspectors will check the performance of contractor inspectors, sent by suppliers of Aramco to a manufacturer’s site. The main task of SGS experts is to check the quality of a whole range of materials and equipment from welds to electrical assemblies.

SGS inspectors are qualified according to the American standards applied to the gas and oil industry, such as ASME and API, as well as internal Aramco specifications. Moreover, SGS will appoint a single point of contact for all inspection activities, in order to achieve most effective coordination. Inspection reports will be filed immediately after an inspection and deficiencies and defects will be reported immediately upon detection. SGS also intends to improve project processes by suggesting corrections of discrepancies to both manufacturers and inspectors.
