Patel, Division Director of Clinical Pharmacy Services for 17 HCA hospitals, and Roderman, Nurse Research and Evidence-Based Practice Coordinator at the Medical Center of Plano, will discuss the prevalence and pathophysiology of sepsis and describe the contents and methodology of the implementation of a successful sepsis program at a community hospital.

About the Presenters: Gita Patel is the the Division Director of Clinical Pharmacy Services for 17 HCA hospitals in the North, Central, and West Texas Divisions. Her areas of interest include pharmacodynamic dosing of anti-infectives, tight glycemic control in hospitalized patients, and sepsis. She has won for the top abstract in the Clinical Category at the Texas Society of Health System Pharmacists 61st Annual Seminar. Patel is also an ASHP Best Practice Award Winner for 2009 for her work in developing and implementing a sepsis algorithm.

Nicki Roderman has over 20 years of Critical Care Experience in a variety of ICU settings, including Surgical Intensive Care, Medical Intensive Care, Neuro Intensive Care, and General ICU. She is presently the Nurse Research and Evidence-Based Practice Coordinator at the Medical Center of Plano where she assists with initiation of evidence-based practice projects across the nursing units and conducting research. She also leads critical care-related evidence-based initiatives for glycemic control, sepsis treatment, and therapeutic hypothermia after cardiac arrest.
