TRUMPF equips Iraqi hospital with high-end medical technology

Ditzingen, Germany / Dubai, UAE, 24.01.2011 – TRUMPF is helping to construct a new hospital complex in the northern Iraqi city of Sulaymaniyah which will set new standards for the country. “Iraq is engaged in some major development projects, particularly in the healthcare sector. But this fact tends to get obscured by the negative headlines about Iraq that dominate reports in Europe,” says Lars Michel, who heads up TRUMPF’s regional office in Dubai (UAE). In mid-January, Michel and TRUMPF's Iraqi partner Al-Bayan signed a major contract to equip all the operating rooms and intensive care units of the Faruk Medical Centre in Sulaymaniyah. This 100 million US dollar project, run by the private investors group Faruk Group Holding, involves a hospital with 147 beds, 47 clinics and a hotel. The hospital – which is scheduled to open at the end of 2011 – aims to set new standards in medical equipment and medical services in the healthcare sector.

TRUMPF will be providing 80 of its latest generation TruPort ceiling-mounted supply units to equip the operating rooms, intensive care units, recovery rooms and emergency department with the necessary gas, electricity and data hook-ups. Seven high-end TruSystem 7500 OR table systems will provide wide-ranging support to surgeons while an ORBITER patient transfer system will help move patients between zones. The intensive care units will feature the innovative lighting solution AmbientLine. “This will be a truly state-of-the-art hospital,” says Michel. “We are delighted to see our products and solutions included in the project.”
This is not the first time TRUMPF has received a major order from Iraq: Back in 2008, the Iraqi Ministry of Health commissioned the company to supply 400 iLED surgical lights with integrated cameras which have been illuminating operating rooms in hospitals across the country ever since.

The highlight of the TRUMPF booth A 10 in Hall 3 will be the ground-breaking TruPort ceiling-mounted supply units which are setting new standards in ORs and intensive care units. As well as catering to a broad range of user needs, the latest generation of ceiling-mounted supply units is also designed to keep pace with shifting requirements in the clinical environment.
