Press release from: Grand Canyon Whitewater

Page, Arizona USA January, 2011

After nearly 44 years operating in the Grand Canyon, Diamond River Adventures has announced their decision to sell its Colorado River rafting services in the Grand Canyon and move on. Grand Canyon Whitewater (GCW) is the new name for the established group of entrepreneurs that will be leading the charge to take GCW into the next century. The new owners of GCW have successfully operated Arizona River Runners for the past 26 years. “We have a formula and a tradition that has worked well for Arizona River Runners and we will take those principles and develop a blue print for success with GCW,” says executive vice-president Bruce Winter.

Diamond River Adventures has truly been an American icon, with Bill & Patricia Diamond and their children participating in the success over the years. Bill Diamond brought his family to Page, Arizona in 1958 to work as a photographer for the construction of the Glen Canyon Dam facility. As the popularity of rafting in the Grand Canyon grew, Bill partnered with the Sanderson family in 1967 to offer some of the first commercially available rafting trips. He split off in 1978 and formed Diamond River Adventures, a successful family-owned rafting company since then. Without the dedication and leadership of Bill and Pat Diamond, companies like Diamond River Adventures would have never become a reality. Grand Canyon Whitewater is proud to carry on this rich tradition whitewater rafting through the Grand Canyon.

Grand Canyon Whitewater’s management plans to maintain the integrity of the long standing family operation; offering many of the same types of Grand Canyon rafting trips, while adding improved transportation options and new state-of-the-art equipment. Arizona River Runners and Grand Canyon Whitewater will maintain separate reservations and operations, but will share some of the same facilities and transportation to operate the two companies most efficiently.

About Grand Canyon Whitewater:
